Why Volunteer
Why Volunteer
Safety For NonProfits (S4NP) is an innovative start-up whose purpose is to establish a system for delivering pro bono professional workplace environmental, health and safety (EHS) services to the charitable nonprofit sector. We bring together nonprofit organizations in need of assessing and addressing the safety risks associated with their operations with EHS professionals who want to “pay it forward” and utilize their expertise and give back to the community.

Nonprofit organizations beneficially impact people in our local communities, and contribute significantly to our quality of life, national economy and societal well-being. According to the National Council of Nonprofits, in the US, there are 1.3 million nonprofits, where 13 million employees and 63 million volunteers work.

Most nonprofits have not established formalized workplace safety and health policies and procedures. On average, one volunteer is killed each week performing volunteer work in the US and many more are injured. For many nonprofits the importance of workplace safety and health may not be recognized as a priority that deserves focused attention. Also the limited resources of nonprofits prevents them from accessing professional EHS services.
